The Dolphin Express IXH610 is based on a Gen2 PCI Express non-transparent bridging architecture. This low profile PCI Express x8 adapter card provides 40 Gbits/s performance over a standard PCIe external cabling system. The IXH610 features transparent Host and non-transparent bridging (NTB), along with host clock isolation. These powerful features make the adapter an ideal interconnect for applications such as test and measurement, medical equipment, and scientific computing.

Used in transparent Host mode, the card will run without the need for special drivers, while supporting standard PCI Express devices and device drivers. In NTB mode, the IXH610 offers Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) for high performance system to system communication. The IXH610 enables system clock isolation. By isolating the system clock (SSC or CFC) transmitting a very low jitter high quality Non-SSC clock to downstream devices, the IXH610 offers users improved signal quality and increased cable distances. The card also includes an EEPROM to support device re-configuration.

Data transfers are conducted through either Direct Memory Access (DMA) or Programmed IO (PIO). The IXH610 supports DMA transfer for larger packet sizes and processor off-load. PIO enables highly efficient transfer of small packets at the lowest latency. The combination of DMA and PIO creates a optimal data transfer system.

The Dolphin Express IXH610 cards flexibility in supporting both transparent Host and non-transparent bridging enables use in many PCI Express applications. It can connect point to point to create a high performance system connection or connect to any other PCI Express piece of equipment, IO system, and other PCI Express end point. The IXH610 utilizes a standard x8 PCI Express iPass cabling system, enabling it to connect to third party PCI Express cabled systems. Connectivity to PCI Express x4 systems is fully supported using a PCI Express x8 to x4 transition cable. More information on cables for the IXH610.

The IXH610 card comes with a license to run the Dolphin PCIe NTB eXpressWare software and can be combined with the IXS600 Switch to create PCIe Gen2 networks up to 20 nodes for general use and up to 56 nodes reflective memory systems.

The IXH610 card does not support transparent Target use-cases. Please use the IXH611 adapter card if you need a Transparent Target card (e.g. for installation into a standard PCI Express Expansion box.
